About Michel François

In his sculptures, photographs, and videos, Michel François demonstrates our conflicting desires to both create and destroy the world we inhabit. For example, his 2011 work Pièce Détachée (Spare Parts) is an ephemeral network of magnetic spheres attached to metal rods that freely deploy themselves; the structure maintains balance due to the electromagnetic forces between the elements. Striving to reveal the essential fragility of humanity, François often plays on the interactivity between the spectator, the work, and its space.
