Miguel Zapata, ‘Drawing of General Robert E. Lee’, 2013, Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden

This equestrian portrait of General Robert E. Lee is a companion to the equestrian portrait of George Washington which was installed last year at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

Another notable commission is the 12 foot tall bronze relief "Texas Door" that was commissioned for the new Performing Arts Center at Texas State University-San Marcos, which was dedicated in February 2014.

Miguel Zapata's work has been shown in 70 solo exhibitions worldwide since 1959. In 2009, the Pensacola Museum of Art in Florida commissioned an exhibition and catalogue to commemorate the 450-year anniversary of its founding and Spanish legacy. Zapata's work is included in the permanent collections of many museums, among them the Hispanic Society of America in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, and the Meadows Museum in Dallas.
