Milton H. Greene, The Archives Store

The Advanced Continuous Tone edition, printed by Black Box Collotype of Chicago, beautifully exhibits their special method of screen-less lithography in these six Milton H. Greene photographs. This collection features Ava Gardner, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Cary Grant and model Ann Gunning.
In the ACT process, images go directly from a digital source to an advanced flatbed printer, which applies permanent pigments to paper without halftone screens or dots, thus creating an actual continuous tone archival print. An extraordinary fidelity, fullness of tone, color and detail, impressive color saturation and clear line resolution is achieved.
There are no Artist Proofs or Exhibition Prints for this edition.
All printing was done at Black Box Collotype of Chicago, a printing company that spent years in research developing a method of fine continuous tone screen-less lithography.

This unpublished photograph was from Milton H. Greene and Judy Garland’s first sitting together. It sparked a long lasting and loyal friendship. This portrait depicts Garland as one of her most adored characters, Hobo. It became synonymous with her act, whether it was performed at the Palace Theater, Carnegie Hall or her TV show. She also performed Hobo duets with many fellow Hobos: Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr.
