Miriam Laura Leonardi, ‘Der Scheik von Alessandria und seine Sklaven’, 2015, Swiss Institute Benefit Auction 2015

The title of this work by emerging artists Miriam Laura Leonardi and Ben Rosenthal is taken from Wilhelm Hauff's collection of fairytales, The Sheik of Alexandria and his Slaves (1827). The reference to this form of fictional storytelling reflects Leonardi and Rosenthal’s interest in how modern communication has increasingly destabilized our understanding of reality and social situations. Leonardi recently had her first solo exhibition in Zurich, and Rosenthal received the Kunsthalle Zurich Production award, with artist Flavio Merlo, earlier this year.
