About Morgan Fisher

Although fluctuating between the mediums of film, painting, drawing, and photography throughout the last half-century, Morgan Fisher's varied works are congruent in many themes. In the 1970s, Fisher created his first films—experimental works that identified with the Structural Film movement in their emphasis of medium over literal content. He also began a critique on the threatening disappearance of artistic mediums such as analog film, a thread still recurrent 40 years later in his drawings and photographs based on the obsolescence of film photography. By the 1990s, Fisher's work grew to include painting and installation, most notably his monochrome, square canvases, and installations dependent on the interaction between artworks within a particular space.
