MOSES & TAPS (2007, GERMANY)
The artist collective MOSES & TAPS, which has been cooperating since 2007, is well- known for its graffiti on trains and walls all over the world. The collective occurs under different names as for example TOPSPRAYER or ERNI & BERT, in order to preserve their anonymity. Meanwhile, it is no longer clear how many writers work under these pseudonyms. The artistic careers of MOSES & TAPS™ began independently of each other in 1994. Similar thoughts and opinions about graffiti led the two sprayers 2007 together.
The painting process is of importance for the collective. The painting process should always be a performance in which the body is used, so that the pieces get a kind of liveliness.
In 2011 the collective published a volume of their works for the first time. Across 288 pages, INTERNATIONAL TOPSPRAYER: MOSES & TAPS TM, is a showcase of the groups ambition to take graffiti to another level. Over the course of 1000 days, they spray-painted 1000 railway carriages. Some looked like typical graffitis, others were more conceptual.
For the project BACKGROUND of the year 2016, MOSES & TAPS created a concept that goes beyond the art of graffiti on the medium train, by placing two graffiti on different media in a relation to one another. The piece on the train, in conjunction with an installed work at a stop, becomes the Gesamtkunstwerk.
