Thierry Guetta, better known by his moniker Mr. Brainwash, entered the music scene in 2009, when Madonna, the Queen of Pop, commissioned him to design the cover art for her greatest hits album Celebration. Like many others, Madonna discovered Mr. Brainwash through the Banksy-directed documentary film Exit Through the Gift Shop (2008), which chronicles Mr. Brainwash’s evolution from filmmaker to street artist. By 2011, Mr. Brainwash had become so popular that Google chose to unveil its Google Music platform at the street artist’s exhibition “Life is Beautiful” in Los Angeles, featuring performances by Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, and Drake amidst Mr. Brainwash’s portraits of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, and Madonna. Music lovers can also discover the Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, David Bowie, Miles Davis, and Snoop Dogg in Mr. Brainwash’s colorful paintings and prints.
Mr. Brainwash's "Anarchy in the UK" depicts the English punk rock band the Sex Pistols in 1976 (left to right) Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, Johnny Rotten, and Paul Cook celebrating with a few cans of beers after clinching their deal with EMI Records, but instead of beers Mr. Brainwash opts for his iconic red Campbell's Soup Spray Cans. The song "Anarchy in the U.K." was released as the band's debut single on November 26, 1976. And so began the punk rock revolution!
