About Nancy Dwyer

Multimedia artist Nancy Dwyer is best known for her word sculptures and paintings, which typically orient themselves around single, socially charged words such as “killer,” “body,” and “food,” and critique capitalist values. Desk of Envy (1988) is composed of a mahogany cabinet topped with glass over green leather that spells, from above, “envy” in block letters, suggesting the self-serving interests latent in corporate culture. For BIG EGO II (2010), Dwyer created an eight-foot-tall nylon balloon that spells “ego”.
