About Naoki Ishikawa
Naoki Ishikawa captures the natural splendor of the planet’s most extreme environments in his photography. A world-renowned climber who has summited the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents, Ishikawa creates photographs that grant viewers access to remote places such as mountain summits and hard-to-reach tropical islands. More than just a document of his travels, his works conveys an ethnographic sensibility, an element inspired by his PhD in anthropology. “For me, the most important part of traveling is going to places that most other people haven’t gone and seeing things with my own eyes, hearing things with my own ears, and experiencing things with my own body,” the artist has said. More than just rendering nature, his photographs capture the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit, illuminating how each one informs the other.
