About Natascha Sadr Haghighian

Natascha Sadr Haghighian challenges accepted ideas about authorship and artistic identity. For her well known piece )I can’t work like this (2007), she used nails to hammer out the title phrase, presenting it as a wall installation at art fairs to poke fun at the notion of creativity being packaged in a commercial space. For Solo Show (2008), Sadr Haghighian created an exhibition based upon the premise that an imagined artist, Robbie Williams, had created the work, allowing the farce to unveil slowly as viewers took in the exhibition. “To me the issue of authorship is immanent,” she says. “No one does anything on their own. But funnily enough, a lot of people behave as though they did […] I think that’s very silly.”
