About Neil Raitt

Neil Raitt uses one of art’s most traditional tools—oil paint—to explore our relationship to imagery in the digital age. Inspired, in part, by the approachable landscapes of Bob Ross’ cult-classic TV show “The Joy of Painting,” Raitt painstakingly renders the types of mountains and trees you’d expect to find on chintzy wallpaper. Rhythmically repeating these forms over and over in a single work, Raitt blurs the line between realism and abstraction as recognizable forms seem to become textured in the mind’s eye, an effect highlighted by the use of subtle shifts in color to create gradients and patterns amid the repeating motifs.
