Neil Williams, ‘Untitled ’, Dean Borghi Fine Art

About Neil Williams

Neil Williams pioneered the shaped canvas during the 1960s. Working alongside fellow Minimalist painter, friend, and studio mate Frank Stella, Williams experimented with hexagonal, polygonal, and trapezoidal canvases with as many as fourteen sides. The surfaces’ geometric, irregular outlines dictated his hard-edged compositions that he rendered in bold, saturated pinks, greens, blues, and blacks. Later in life, his compositions and brushwork loosened, and his paintings evolved into expressive, energetic abstractions.
