About Park Hyung Jin
Often working from a photographic source, hyperrealist painter Park Hyung Jin creates luminous portraits of young female subjects that explore the notion of “idealistic beauty” (which has captivated the artist for much of his career) and the impression of light and shadow on the subject’s appearance, as in Ayoung (2009), a naturalistic study in visual perception. Though working in a photorealistic style, Park enacts strange distortions on the women in his paintings, often enlarging eyes or shrinking chins to give his subjects an almost otherworldly feel.
