Patricia Pearce, ‘Accordian Book II’, ViVO Contemporary

This unique piece was inspired from artist Patricia Pearce’s time in India where she was taken by the beautiful bells. Pearce has continued using them in other pieces. In this assemblage, the book was suspended in a dye bath for many days to develop the color and form. It was then wrapped in a cyanotype that had been bleached and toned. Patricia used old lace to develop her image. The material used to wrap the book was dyed red to add richness. The bells were added for their wonderful tone. The book was designed as a sculpture not to be opened, adding mystery to the piece.
