Largely abstract, Patrick Hill’s sculptures juxtapose rough with smooth, solid with friable, industrial with organic, masculine with feminine. His layering of materials often involves combining the solid weight of concrete with the transparency and fragility of planes of glass and hand-dyed canvas, making many of his works appear on the verge of collapse. Hill’s sculptures often allude to the physicality of the human body, such as in Poser (2011) featuring marble cutouts of female limbs, posed in an overtly sexual and exhibitionistic manner.
