About Patrick Lee

Patrick Lee draws photorealistic graphite portraits based on his original pictures of Los Angeles gang members, outlaws, and drifters. The men in Lee’s drawings, with their scars, tattoos, style, or body language, form and perform complex codes of masculinity and aggression. Slowly rendering each individual in painstaking detail, Lee attempts to convey the humanity that—despite the losses, jail time, or gang activity his subjects have experienced—lies behind their steely gazes.
