About Paul McDevitt

Paul McDevitt’s mixed media paintings combine rigorous formal and photographic practices with the influence of graffiti, iconic cartoon characters, and graphic design found in old European publications. His compositions are expressive and layered, comprised of oil paint, screen printing, collage, found objects, and industrial processes such as sandblasting, often all within a single piece. He juxtaposes high art techniques with ad hoc, improvised procedures, using recognizable tropes from iconic art movements such as Modernism, De Stijl, and Surrealism alongside popular motifs drawn from cartoon characters and beer mats.

Scottish, b. 1972, Troon, United Kingdom, based in London & Berlin
