NUNAVUT, CANADA As the spring ice pack recedes, narwhals surface between narrow cracks and holes as they migrate and feed on polar cod. Their compact size (13 to 18 feet long) and lack of dorsal fins aids travel beneath
the ice. Like polar bears, the life cycle of narwhal is directly linked
to sea ice.
