About Paul Sietsema

Paul Sietsema makes objects, installations, drawings, and paintings, but considers these only as secondary props to his films. Sietsema is known for his elaborate research-based practice, his ability to create replicas and convincing fabrications, and the educational or documentary guise of his ultimately fictional films. His subjects range from the art historical to the, and consider what it means to make and refer to images. In his own words, “I had been interested in the idea that the purpose of an artwork is not to transmit information or meaning, but is rather to mediate or pattern information.” His projects usually take years to realize, and most of the time is spent on setting up the objects and the scenarios.
