After successful career as an investment banker, Paula Crown abandoned the finance industry and found her vocation for art practice, graduating with an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Crown’s multimedia work investigates the theme of virtual and physical landscape through the combination of digital and analog processes. She seeks a sense of place and horizon in unexpected objects and spaces – including her own brain in INSIDE MY HEAD: A Contemporary Self Portrait, a topographic map of the artist’s mind created with MRIs. The artist also often intersects the flatness of painting and drawing with sculpture and technology, creating “dimensionalized drawings,” as seen in her first solo exhibition with Marlborough Gallery, New York. Crown serves on President Obama's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and is a member of the board of trustees of The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
