Pedro Barrail works as an artist, designer, and architect. He was born in Paraguay and studied in Miami, and his work combines the traditional indigenous crafts of South America with modern ideas and technologies. Barrail’s most notable work is a series of wooden furniture covered with tattoo designs burned into the surface by members of the Pai Tavytera tribe. The designs tell the story of this culture in their own visual lanugage. As an architect, Barrail’s work retains its strong lines, as in an airy bird-watching pavilion he created in Asunción with Marcelo Barrail and Lourdes Mendez.
