About the work
Penny Lamb
English, b. 1968
Follow

Penny Lamb incorporates macabre materials such as bone, fly vomit, and hair into her sculptures, works on paper, and installations. These morbid elements are not immediately obvious from a distance; for example, her “Fly Vomit” works on paper appear as abstract earth-toned constellations, while her chicken bone–laden totem poles resemble religious artifacts. Closer inspection reveals both the materials’ identity and intricate beauty. Lamb recently continued her “Totem Pole” series by juxtaposing feminine objects, such as porcelain dishes, with more utilitarian materials, such as a rusted steel framework.
