Peter Böhnisch, ‘John Lennon’, 2016, Contemporary Fine Arts

About Peter Böhnisch

Combining abstraction and representation, Peter Böhnisch produces dreamlike paintings and drawings that feel both familiar and strange. He interweaves recognizable images—an umbrella, a horse, faces, mountains—with brushed patches of color and abstract forms. Working in layers, Böhnisch carefully builds up the ground of his paintings and drawings before finishing their surfaces, rendering images that are intricate and full of visual and conceptual depth. By leaving most of his works untitled, Böhnisch encourages viewers to tease out and discover meaning, or perhaps project their own.
