About Peter Campus

Over the course of his long career, begun in the intellectual and artistic ferment of New York in the 1960s, Campus has used analog and digital video, film, and photographic technology to reflect on himself and nature and explore his deep interest in psychology. Campus’s earliest works were more reflexive and tongue-in-cheek, before his turn to nature in the early 1980s. Three Transitions (1973) is among his best-known pieces, a wry yet jarring video in which Campus used camera tricks to show himself manipulating his own image in three different ways, including walking through a slit he appears to cut into his back.
