Peter Kalkhof, ‘Colour and Space’, 2011, Annely Juda Fine Art

About Peter Kalkhof

Peter Kalkhof worked with the concepts of color and space (also the title of many of his works) to produce bold paintings in which formal elements like straight lines, grids, and circles are filled with block or gradated color. Trained in color chemigraphy and inspired by Kandinsky’s synesthetic compositions, Kalkhof combined geometric shapes with a heightened palette of predominantly primary colors. Based in London from the 1960s on, the artist traveled throughout the Middle East and Asia, visiting sacred sites, pyramids, and monuments that influenced his approach to the symbolic dimensions of geometry.
