Peter Pincus’s “Urn” is a unique piece made by the artist for Chamber. Composed of colored porcelain and gold luster, it is a reinvestigation of a form the artist first made in 2005. “Each time I remake it, I try to play with formal relationships, like that between lip and foot or between stem and belly, to create a balanced form that, to some extent, defies architectural logic,” says Pincus.
The elegant, tall off-white structure has a vivid midriff made of small vertical bands of color. By cutting the original band into a hundred small pieces and sanding each one carefully before reconstructing the band, the artist has created an undulating, delicate display.
