Phillip Low, ‘TRAPEZIUMS: Red/Green’, 2016, Chamber

“TRAPEZIUM: Red/Green” is part of a series of ten unique, acrylic pieces inspired by brutalist architecture, architectural models, and building blocks. “Like most of my three-dimensional work,” says Low, “TRAPEZIUM: Red/Green” is “malleable and interactive.” Depending on the viewpoint and positioning of the object, the dark form disorientingly reveals different types of light, color, and shifts in shape.

In employing acrylic plastic, Low opts for the material’s “precision, density, and optical qualities.” These unique properties allow the artist to make objects “that can be altered by the viewer to become something different.”
