About Piotr Janas

In Piotr Janas’s oil paintings, torturous-looking tools, reminiscent of surgical implements, smash and puncture amoebic forms referencing organs, fluids, and various body parts. Imperceptible brushstrokes are juxtaposed with thick splatters, drips, scratches, and smears to create intensely varied textures and emotionally complex narratives. Often featuring evocative shades of red, the images are both violent and cartoonish, such as the giant elongated tongue in Untitled (2007), impossibly traversing the corner of a cubic space to lick a blood-brown vertical stain on a wall.
