About Poul Kjærholm

Best known for his designs of the iconic Tulip Chair (1961) and Hammock Chair (1965), Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm used innovative construction materials to produce fluid designs that were elegant, functional, and decidedly modern. Combining steel with wood, leather, cane, or marble, Kjaerholm created minimalist designs that were rich in expression. His design ideology focused on the contrast between sculpture and architecture and the strategic effect of placing a piece of his furniture in an architectural space. His designs are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and in other museum collections in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
