Unknown Pre-Columbian, ‘Calima Gold Face Mask’, 0-800, Muzeion Gallery

Calima Gold Face Mask. The mask is funerary, used as a false face on a mummy bundle. The eleven holes were used to sew it to the bundle. Gold faces for funerary bundles of important people must have been common in ancient burials, but no so many seem to have survived. There is a similar mask exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
