About Purdey Fitzherbert

Purdey Fitzherbert uses art to capture the invisible. Made from layers of oil paint, metallic pigment, and spray paint, her mixed-media works are studies of perception, a concrete attempt to represent intangible phenomena such as after-images and ephemeral light effects. Made of thousands of little circles, like pixels, the surface of each painting seems to shimmer or vibrate, changing as the viewer moves around it. The resulting image, the artist has stated, has more in common with the ever-shifting ways the human eye records light, with all its veils and halos, than with the static way a photograph or painting records color and form.
