About Rachel Rose

Rachel Rose’s dreamlike video works often center on the concept of mortality and include montages that are neither narrative nor abstract. She zooms in on her footage to highlight concrete textures—of an antique painting or a mascara’d eyelash, for example—and adds layers of haunting sounds and opaque speech. But there are also clear characters and settings in Rose’s videos, such as a polar bear in captivity who has lost his sensitivity to snow, or Philip Johnson’s Glass House in a downpour.
