Rana Rochat, ‘Untitled L836’, 2014, David Lusk Gallery

About Rana Rochat

Based on instinct, Rana Rochat’s abstract, non-referential works intuitively balance order and chaos. Lacking foreground or background, they exist as cohesive environments of fluid calligraphic lines. Rochat considers her paintings to be visual poems that lack fixed meaning and are open to interpretation. She is most interested in the meanings that lines can accrue and how the editing of marks, either by layering or adding lines in close proximity, alters their role and context. Approaching her work in a stream of consciousness manner, Rochat aspires to create preverbal art forms that expose the fluidity of lines and their inherent balance.
