Randy Polumbo, ‘Kitty’, 2016, Watermill Center Summer Benefit Auction 2016

In recent years, self-described “mad scientist” and sculptor Randy Polumbo has diverged from his traditional media of molten glass and metal to experiment with digital photography. In Kitty (2016), Polumbo’s hypnotic pull towards the unusual is evident as the artist reduces a cuddly feline to a textured snout, while abstracted eyes loom like headlights in the distance. Polumbo is the winner of the Lash Award for Excellence in Sculpture, and his works can be found at the Crocker Museum of Art, Sacramento, and the Museum of Sex, New York.
