Rebecca Crook, ‘Umoja Primary School Tanzania’, 2016, Museum of African Design (MOAD)

Naema, age 5, holds her favorite photo from our nomadic exhibition at Umoja Primary School. “She is happy!” Naema commented of my Johannesburg neighbour. Ikena, just a year younger from Johannesburg, would be tickled to know that she has an admirer all the way in Tanzania. Photography has the potential to connect people across lines of difference, something that I learned once again watching children debate, giggle and discuss photographs of their peers around the globe during our school exhibitions.
