A World in Fragments: 50 Years of Robert S. Neuman’s Vibrant Paintings
An exuberant celebration of the cultural fragmentation of the world, Pedazos del Mundo (1961) represents many firsts in Neuman's oeuvre. It is the first work in his Pedazos del Mundo series, the first to utilize symbolism to convey his artistic vision and the first to display the full bloom of the graphic flair that would ultimately define him. The sharply delineated segments originating in the center of the canvas explode outwards creating a visual symphony that is recalcitrant, cacophonous and earnest—much like humanity’s litany of cultures.
