A World in Fragments: 50 Years of Robert S. Neuman’s Vibrant Paintings
Sagrada Familia (1981) belongs to Robert S. Neuman’s "Barcelona Series” series, a series of works inspired his time in Barcelona, Spain under the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1955. In Barcelona, Neuman was struck by the brilliance of the morning sunlight rippling through city’s narrow calles and felt compelled to transpose the sight onto the canvas. Sagrada Familia translates light and shadow into vivid hues and audacious painterly brushwork to create an expressive window onto Barcelona.
