Robert Taplin, ‘Punch Makes Love to the Duchess’, 2005, FRED.GIAMPIETRO Gallery

Robert Taplin’s on-going “History of Punch” series, while deeply rooted historically with Tiepolo’s Punchinello, places Punch in contemporary, current events situations. Robert Taplin’s most recent show at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 2015 was centered on the Punch iconography as will his New Haven debut show at Fred Giampietro Gallery. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and has received numerous awards and grants, most notably from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Taplin is a self-taught artist with a degree in Medieval Studies from Pomona College in Claremont, CA.
