About Ryan Metke

Ryan Metke’s body of work is deeply rooted in his travels. His paintings draw on the aesthetics of cartography; in his series “Time Trove,” Metke created maps with iconographic clues that viewers—who are always integral to the artist’s practice—can actually follow to discover capsules that he has placed on different parts of the globe. “The result,” he says, “is a topographical collage of the human experience that demonstrates the challenges and beauties that the natural world has given us.” Metke has also created a series of brass wasps’ nests, cast using real nests he found while traveling.
