Much of Ryan Wallace’s practice is preoccupied with scientific inventions or investigations—like the Doomsday Clock, the Omega Point, and the Large Hadron Collider—and theories of the universe, as well as the visualization of information, geography, and data. His curiosity results in chaos-embracing, experimentally formed objects; in speaking about his multimedia works and his use of material, Wallace admits, “I never use anything the right way.” Wallace combines more traditional art mediums, like oil paint, enamel, ink, graphite, PVA, and Mylar, with automotive tints, one-way mirrors, construction materials found around his building, and scraps sourced from his own studio. From these, Wallace makes collages, paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture.
