About Sanam Khatibi
Informed by a rich understanding of art history, Sanam Khatibi approaches her allegorical investigation of human nature, desires, and impulses from a unique and socially conscious perspective. In self-contained and evocative works, Khatibi appeals to primal instinct and artistic tradition, expressing emotional ambiguity and contradiction, rendered against a fantastical, dynamic visual landscape. The Iranian artist lives and works in Belgium, channeling her magical naturalism through paintings, tapestries, and sculptures. Khatibi’s enigmatic style recalls contemporary animation, Ukiyo-e paintings, and Hieronymus Bosch while creating a totally separate and unique visual experience.
