About Sarah McEneaney

In an idiosyncratic painterly style, Sarah McEneaney renders mundane scenes from her own daily life in egg tempera on wood. These richly hued autobiographical narratives depict the artist reading at home near her napping pets, taking a bath, or enjoying her travels, often from an aerial perspective. Despite the trappings of leisure—she is seen floating in Dead Sea, sketching on France’s Brittany coast, and camping out under the stars in Florida—a sense of anxiety permeates much of her work, as in her severe self-portrait Diagnosis/Surgery Cut (2005), which references her battle with breast cancer.
