Sarah McRae Morton, ‘The Last Green Bear’, 2016, Bau-Xi Gallery

Inspired in part by Edwin Henry Landseer’s Man Proposes God Disposes (1864), believed to be about Franklin’s Lost Expedition. The HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were lost in the Arctic while seeking the NW Passage. Last seen in Lancaster Sound in 1845, the wreckage of the HMS Terror was discovered south of King William Island this summer. The figures are modeled after The Cust Brothers by John Hoppner.
