Sax Berlin, ‘Artemis of Ephesus’, 2013, White Court Art

Artemis of Ephesus - the twin of Apollo & daughter of Leto and Zeus, was regarded as the Great Mother Goddess of Fertility and helper of midwives. This eternal virgin was also Goddess of the wilderness, wild animals and the hunt. Sax Berlin has drawn upon his vast knowledge of mythology to create his own interpretation of the Mother Goddess whose statues are found throughout the ancient, classical world. Pacifiers replace the sacrificial bull testes in the original statue representations, small footprints symbolise the babies and there's a dove an almost universal symbol of purity. This intricate piece was started in 2013 and completed in 2015.
