Óscar Santillán, ‘La Noche (moonstone)’, Copperfield

In the past years Santillán has been working in close dialogue with astronomers, mathematicians, and scientists from different fields. This piece is an outcome of those encounters. After the artist inquire about the weight of phenomena which usually is not recognized properly as “matter”, in this case moonlight, by means of quantum calculations a group of experts have proposed an estimation of the weight of a full moonlight’s night over planet Earth. This precise weight has been carved into moonstone, a material that, for instance, Romans literally considered to be created as a consequence of moonlight condensation.
