“The stuttering, multilayered images convert movement and time into flashes of ecstatic energy.”
— Goings on About Town, The New Yorker
Scott Alario’s photographic practice draws inspiration from his intimate surroundings, particularly his family and home, located in the lush and green outskirts of Providence, Rhode Island. Alario highlights both the spirited imagination of his two main protagonists (his son and daughter), and the elements that make up their playful endeavors, through intricate close-ups. In Soft Landing (2017) the camera focuses on a bent knee, overlaid with a bright pink and blue patterned pants, which holds up a small toy ice cream truck. The sharp luminosity and lively balance of the hues found in the photograph are predominant characteristics in the work of Alario.
Alario is the recipient of a 2012 Fellowship Merit Award from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. An upcoming solo exhibition at Kristen Lorello, New York, will open in December.
