About Sebastian Lloyd Rees

Appropriating urban objects such as scrap metal, doors, old signs, and other industrial fragments, sculptor Sebastian Lloyd Rees has created an archeological language from urban detritus. Rees sources materials from a variety of locations, and with each reveals elements of certain microcultures forming in these areas. While many of his works recontextualize found objects, others, such as Untitled (St. Pauli) directly comment on the political upheaval in the squatter communities by imitating graffiti found in these sites. Rees is also one half of the Lloyd Corporation, a collaborative project he started with artist Ali Eisa, which focuses on site-specific installation, sculptures, artist books, prints, and appropriated objects.
