About Serena Mitnik-Miller

California-based artist and designer Serena Mitnik-Miller creates delicate watercolor compositions with a lyrical sense of geometry and line. An avid surfer, Mitnik-Miller finds inspiration in the beach, ocean, and nature. She often begins a piece with abstract references to natural shapes, and then multiplies and stacks these forms until they become pure patterns of pigment and negative space. Mitnik-Miller has said she is always “finding new ways for the same patterns to interact” through a process that is “a delicate balance between exacting discipline and freeform expression.” This return to familiar forms turns the process of painting into a soothing, meditative act.
