About Sharon Core

Though her sumptuous photographs of food and flower still lifes seem, at first, like straightforward visual feasts, Sharon Core’s compositions are the result of a sleight-of-hand wittiness and conceptual rigor. Her photographs are painstaking recreations of still life works by some of the most famous painters of the genre, including 19th-century artist Raphaelle Peale and contemporary artist Wayne Thiebaud. That her photographs are based on photographic reproductions of the paintings she mimics adds a layer of perceptual intrigue to her works.
