Jewel like stainless steel, and copper wall sculpture. The pattern is cut into the steel, and then the entire surface is sprayed with molten copper which creates the inlay. The whole thing is then polished back to a mirror finish. There is a simple to install custom mounting bracket. Difficult to photograph as the work changes with the light and the angle of viewing.
Since he began his artistic career in the mid 1980’s, Dark has participated in exhibitions throughout Ontario and Quebec, and in the United States, notably at the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, New York and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC. His work has been shown in many major public galleries. He has also exhibited in Spain and Greece. He has won numerous grants and awards, and has completed a number of major public commissions. A documentary on Dark’s life and work, entitled “Artist in the Round: Shayne Dark”, premiered on the Discovery Channel HD Theatre on April 25, 2004 across the United States. In 2016, he is the Artist in Residence at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in New York. A major public work will be installed in San Francisco late in 2016.
